Make History

"From the Hip" was the culmination of a year-long collaboration with John "Hoppy" Hopkins. The famed British photographer rose to prominence in the early sixties when he left his job as a nuclear physicist for a life as a freelance photographer in London. His fascination with music and counterculture often led him into the London underground where he captured the early years of bands like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. This compilation brought rare photos never before seen in previous collections. The Neologist was asked to edit and to write the dedication page from Lee Europe...

"In Hoppy we found an unlikely inspiration. His honest and unpretentious portrayal of the 60s brought us together. We identified with an individualist who shared our fondness for real people and candid photos that defy the ephemeral world of fashion. That attitude was imbued in the Gold Label collection we dedicated to Hoppy, and prevails upon who we are and what we believe. We're proud to support our friends and collaborators because their personal expressions inspire us and light our path."
